Bear With Me

1 04 2008

You may notice that a number of pictures are missing throughout various posts…my old dot com is shut down now and apparently when I moved, I didn’t move the photographs as thoroughly as I should have.

Who knew?

No big deal, but it does mean I have to spend some time uploading them again. In due time though. I have an English assignment that must be completed first.

Is it spring where you are? We’re -22C this morning but have been warming up quite nicely each day to the minus single digits. The sunshine is phenomenal and BDs and I have been out and about each day enjoying the fabulous weather. Yesterday was ice skating on the oval on Frame Lake. Today we’ll be playing some shinny.

Oh, btw, GO OILERS!

Hockey for the Cure – Memory Marshall

20 09 2007

Memory MarshallSometimes words cannot express what is in your heart. Memory was the daughter of my dear friend, Marty Jimmy and though Memory is gone, she leaves behind this legacy to help cure cancer. In just one weekend, her family and friends raised nearly $175 000 in her name. Amazing.

Rest in peace, Memory.

The Oilers Have Arrived

7 09 2007

Craig MacTavishWell, the rookies have. And the coaching staff. I’m really hoping I’ll get to see coach, Craig MacTavish. He was my favorite Oiler back in the 80’s.We’re going to watch the practice on Sunday morning. You can bet the whole family will be dudded up in our jerseys, though sadly mine is now somewhat archaic with the trade of Captain, Jason Smith #21 to Philadelphia. It was a sad, sad day for me when that happened. Almost as sad as when we lost Game Seven.

Ethan MoreauHowever, a fresh new season awaits and while Fernando Pisani is out indefinitely, I’m anxious to hear if Ethan Moreau is back in this year’s line up.

The Official Blurb:

The Edmonton Oilers open their 2007-08 season next week as they travel north to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories for Rookie Camp. A total of 38 players (25 forwards, 10 defenceman and three goaltenders) will go through the paces on the ice at the Shorty Brown MultiPlex from Friday, September 7th to Sunday, September 9th.

GO OILERS!

That Guy and Jason Smith

19 03 2007

Jason SmithSo that guy, better known as BH, bought me an anniversary present.

Some of you know that:
A. I like to watch hockey
B. I am an Edmonton Oilers fan
C. Jason Smith, the Oilers’ captain, reminds me of my dad.
Not only do I now have Number 21 hanging in my closet, but I almost managed to break the Oiler’s losing streak tonight by pulling it out and wearing it.

Go, team, go!

Some men give their women diamonds…others don’t. ;)

Why I like Jason Smith and other reasons to love OILERS hockey

17 01 2006

My dadSo it was my dad’s birthday a few days ago and though he’s been gone two years now, he’s always in my heart.Sometimes, a little too much, I think.

For instance, last week I was in a funk and really didn’t feel like writing so I was scrounging around for a diversion.

Ah ha!

Look at the scruffy dog! Look at the new clippers we just bought!

So, yeah. I decided to shave the dog. Loreth tells me she would have done it too, so I don’t feel so bad about not writing, but I do feel bad about the haircut, ’cause did I mention we live in northern Alberta and that it’s winter here?

Yeah. Not so much my most stellar idea. But they tell me the hair will grow back.

However, I digress.                                                        Rio

Fast forward to the end of the haircut and I’ve realized that minus the small detail of having four legs, I’ve somehow managed to channel my dad from beyond and the dog now looks exactly like him.

I’m serious.

EXACTLY like him.

Gone is my dog and instead I’ve got my dad. Silvery hair. Soft gentle eyes. Scrawny neck. Flat head. Bushy eyebrows. Widow’s peak. The whole shebang.

Even the DH thinks so.

So I find myself being extra special nice to the dog now, which is good to a degree, but he’s become rather demanding and now I’ve got to work through the guilt of saying no to my dad/dog.

Sigh. Don’t worry, I know the name of a good therapist.

But I guess you’re wondering what the heck the title is all about, right?

Yeah. Let’s get to that.

Jason Smith is the captain of the Edmonton Oilers and he looks just like myJason Smith dad (NO! NO! Stick with me on this! I promise…it will make sense!)

He doesn’t look like my dad did when he was older (so therefore he doesn’t resemble my dog in the least), but you see, he looks like my dad did when I was a baby.

Seriously.

small-meretta-baby.jpgEven the DH thinks so (are you noticing a trend of overt compliancy here in regards to the DH? Yeah. I just saw it, too. HUH?)

Okay. Back to Jason.

So, Jason looks like my dad did, is rough and tumble like my dad used to be and then there’s Ales Hemsky who is for certain going to be one of the best players in NHL Hockey very soon (my dad hated hockey, by the way) and he’s also whom Jason defended without a split second’s hesitation in last night’s game after a Sabre’s player tried to take out Ales’s knee in a questionable hit. Jason got kicked out for most of the second period for his trouble, but that’s just the kind of player he is.

So. My Dad. The Dog. Jason. And Ales.

All perfect reasons to love the Oilers.

I’m going to go get another cup of coffee now.
